Monster Chapter 14 Summary : It’s Not Your Fault
After narrowly escaping, Tenma and Nina find refuge in a secluded cabin in the woods, hoping for a brief moment of safety. It is here that Nina opens up to Tenma about the tragic past that has haunted her. She recalls how she and Johan crossed the border as children, and how Johan went on to kill everyone who took care of them, including the Lieberts back in 1986.
The weight of these revelations is immense, but Tenma feels helpless in the face of the horrifying reality that Johan’s monstrous actions have left in their wake.
Meanwhile, Tenma returns to town and learns that the police are now investigating the murders of the Fortners, Maurer, and Ivan Kürten. Shockingly, he discovers that Messener and Müller, the detectives who had tried to capture them, were real police officers.
Inspector Lunge arrives at the Heidelberg Castle crime scene, where he finds Tenma’s tie, an ominous clue pointing to his involvement.
Upon returning to the cabin, Tenma is devastated to find that Nina is gone. However, she left behind a letter in which she assures him that it was not his fault for saving Johan. She tells him that it was his job as a doctor to save lives, even those of monsters like Johan.
Heartbroken and now even more lost, Tenma boards a train, unsure of where his journey will take him next.
