Monster Chapter 3 Summary : Downfall
Dr. Kenzo Tenma’s operation on Johan is a success, but the same cannot be said for Mayor Roedecker, who dies during surgery. As a result, Tenma faces severe backlash from his colleagues Boyer, Eisen, and Oppenheim, who resent him for abandoning the assigned operation.
During an evening party, hospital director Udo Heinemann delivers a devastating blow—Tenma is stripped of future career opportunities. He is barred from presenting his thesis at the upcoming academic meeting and will receive no letter of recommendation should he seek a transfer. Adding to his downfall, Boyer is promoted as the new hospital chief in his place.
To make matters worse, Eva Heinemann, his fiancée, coldly breaks off their engagement, choosing ambition over love. With his career and personal life in ruins, Tenma finds himself alone.
Later, in Johan’s hospital room, a distraught Tenma vents his anger to the seemingly unconscious boy, calling Heinemann corrupt and convincing himself that saving Johan was the right choice. As he leaves, something eerie happens—Johan’s eyes open.
